France takes early lead...

Published: 15th October 2009

AT the end of the opening day, British Trophy team rider David Knight sits just four seconds off the top spot in the overall classification at the 84th International Six days Enduro as the Kawasaki rider looks to put his largely disappointing WEC season behind him and do his best to claim a second overall Six Days victory.

Performing well throughout the opening day’s competition, Knight topped the Enduro 2 class results where he finished ahead of French trophy team rider Rodrig Thain with former team-mate Juha Salminen third.

But it’s France that has taken an early lead in the Trophy Team competition, placing as the best six-rider team at the end of the first day’s competition in Portugal. Pre-event favourites, the French squad that doesn’t include Enduro 2 World Champion Johnny Aubert enjoy a near one-minute lead at the top of the Trophy category. Despite their day one successes things aren’t looking good for Enduro 1 class rider Marc Germain who was forced to ride the whole day with a closed right eye, the result of an as yet unknown infection picked up before the start.
