THE 2010 TRIAL SEASON IS READY TO BEGIN

Published: 04th January 2010

Whilst many of the other motorcycle disciplines are still enjoying the winter break, the 2010 season is set to start early for an elite group of riders in the Trial community. Sheffield, Great Britain will once again have the honour of opening the new year, with the compact arena on the outskirts of the northern city playing host to round one of the 2010 SPEA FIM Indoor Trial World Championship on Saturday 9th January.

Sheffield is the first stop on a packed schedule that will see the eight fixed riders visit seven different destinations before the final round in Madrid, Spain at the end of March. Whilst two of the seven rounds are yet to be confirmed, the five rounds which are listed include some well established venues, which all have a rich history of creating some epic duels.

The eight fixed riders include reigning champion Toni Bou - Repsol Montesa who will be looking not only to retain his title, but also to make it four straight wins in a row. His challengers will come in the form of Albert Cabestany (Spain) - Sherco, Adam Raga (Spain)- Gas Gas, Takahisa Fujinami (Japan) - Repsol Montesa, Jeroni Fajardo (Spain) - Beta, James Dabill (Great Britain) - Gas Gas, Loris Gubian (France) - Gas Gas and Alexz Wigg (Great Britain) - Beta.

As per last year, each local organiser is permitted to select a maximum of two wild card entrants to join the eight fixed riders during the qualification lap, which must consist of a minimum of four sections. The best eight riders, following qualification, will take part in the Trial itself, which will go through three new elimination stages (TX1, TX2 and TX3) to decide the eventual winner.

TX1 will begin with a quartet of head to head races, with the four race winners transfering straight to TX2. The four race losers will go to a last chance section to decide the remaining two riders who will then also progress to TX2. The next stage of the Trial will see these six riders fight it out over three more sections, with the best four riders then going head to head again in a second dual lane race. These remaining four riders will ride four final sections in TX3, with the final results being determined with the scores from TX2 and TX3 being added together to create an overall total.

This exciting and dynamic new format is sure to produce some thrilling action, some surprising results and many hours of incredible entertainment as this elite group of riders deliver their unique mix of skill and bravery. So although the new year is still only young, the first fight of the season is now just a few days away.
