Kevin Strijbos wrapped up the MX1 crown – his first ever national crown – after the opening moto.
 
Things were much more intense in the battle for the MX2 honours as Mel Pocock and Elliott Banks-Browne scrapped all day.
 
The points lead swapped a number of times before ‘EBB’ finally claimed the glory – despite five separate spills – in the combined MX1/ MX2 moto, with MX1 team-mate Strijbos riding shotgun.
 
After racing had finished and almost in darkness, overall winner Simpson said: “It’s been a positive end to the season, but it was a shame for me that Kevin (Strijbos) was riding ‘shotgun’ for Elliott.
 
“In the last race I would have liked the chance to beat him fair and square. 
 
“It should have been win, win and win for me today, but I fell off in the second race.
 
“But all that aside it’s nice to get on the top step of the podium at least once this year.
 
It’s been a tough year this year for me in the Maxxis as I thought I had a good chance of winning the title.
 
“But this and that happened and it didn’t turn out as planned. 
 
“Still, top of the box at the final round may help me get things sorted for next year, as at the moment I have nothing!”
 
From third on the podium Anderson said: “It’s a completely different ball game to what I have been used to in Australia.
 
“I came here not expecting to get on the podium but just to have a bit of fun and see old friends.
 
“So I am very happy with my third place.
 
“I am now looking forward to next year riding the LPE Kawasaki in the home series.”
 
First overall and MX2 champion Banks-Brown said: “Finally. It’s amazing as luck was on our side today as it seemed to have deserted us for most of the year.
 
“I even had a crash on the last lap of the race, as I was thinking I had the championship and didn’t see a big rock in the rut I was in and fell off. 
 
“I have never picked up a bike up so quickly in my life. I felt so nervous over the last couple of laps I didn’t know what to do. 
 
“I had cut my elbow badly in race two, but couldn’t even feel it in the last race. 
 
“I am soaked in champagne and I don’t care, I am so pumped”
 
Second overall MacKenzie said: “It’s a fantastic day to end the season with. We have had some ups and downs this year, with changing teams halfway through the year.
 
“Racing some GPs has helped with my pace but it was great to be out on my little bike again, instead of the big 450. 
 
“I was wringing the neck off it all day and with some good starts managed to nick third in the 
championship. 
 
“I’d like to thank my Pendrich KTM team and my mechanic BC.” 
 
The ever-improving Irwin added: “Things have been going well these last couple of weeks.
 
“But I didn’t push hard enough at the beginning of the races, something I need to sort for next year.
 
“I am very happy to be on the podium though.”
