Bonneville opens Minibike Champs

IN just over a week’s time the gate will drop on the opening round of the 2008 British Four-stroke Minibike Championship. The fantastically prepared circuit at Bonneville, Essex, has the honour of hosting the initial encounter, which will hopefully pick up on the great success of the inaugural series that took place last year.

IT has just been announced by the Dyfed Dirt Bike Club that round four of the Ian Durston Plant Services-sponsored British Sidecar-cross championship will now be held at Tavernspite, instead of Talsarn. Riders are reminded that transponders will be required for the next round at Desertmartin on Saturday, April 26. If a transponder has not been used for a considerable time it could take longer than normal to fully recharge.

FRESH off the back of a hard couple of weekend’s work at Canada Heights second Maxxis British Motocross Championship event and the opening round of the World Motocross Championship, the contendors for the country’s premier series converge on Torrington, Devon, on Sunday, for the third instalment determined to play catch-up to the flying Scotsmen Billy MacKenzie and Shaun Simpson who creamed the opposition last time out. With just two rounds down, it has already been an eventful and exciting championship and with a re-vamped track at Torrington to look forward too the thrid round is likely to throw up more fireworks and great racing.

AFTER a fast, frantic season opener at flat-out Little Silver Moto Park last month, the British MMX Championship returns to the South West for round two of the 2008 series at Whiteway Barton, Devon, on Sunday. Both the Open and Under 21 classes will be in action at the tricky, potentially wet Whiteway circuit, as well as the opening salvo of the British Quadcross Championship, and with the first round jitters out of the way, the championship contenders will be going all out on the day to bag as many points as possible and establish themselves firmly as title candidates.

A RECORD £40,000 prize package, spread over Ulster Championships for Motocross and Supermoto, was announced last week by the governing body of the sport, the Motorcycle Racing Association. THE opening round of the 2008 Remedies Bar Motocross Championships took place on Sunday at Garlands Moor, near Holsworthy, Devon. Heavy rain had fallen prior to the meeting so things were a bit slippery to begin with and a lot of track maintenance was required which put the days schedule slightly behind. As a result there was only time for two blocks of races.
