Nathan Watson storms to Red Bull Knock Out victory

Briton Nathan Watson saw off Dutch home hero Glenn Coldenhoff and Belgian Yentel Martens on the beach to triumph at Red Bull Knock Out on Saturday as Billy Bolt was crowned the Ultimate Enduro Champion 2018

The spotlight was on Watsons compatriot Bolt ahead of the last WESS round with him leading the overall standings. The sixth edition of the worlds toughest beach race in The Netherlands saw the field whittled down from 1,000 riders to 750 after the morning qualifier.

Watson was the class act in the morning, however it was Coldenhoff who set the final pace with Watson, Martens, Frances Camille Chapeliere and Briton Todd Kellet in the hunt as well.

The final hour saw the opening of the extreme X-Loop with Watson putting his Enduro motorbike skills to better use as he powered into the lead.

Coldenhoff hung in second, but could only finish 90 seconds down on Watson with Martens winning the battle behind for the last podium place.

Watson, 24, said: To get the job done is an amazing feeling, especially after finishing runner-up the last two editions. I was ill last week and I didnt expect to be so strong, but the whole race went perfectly. To jump up to third overall in the WESS championship is the icing on the cake for me.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarnas Bolt and German Manuel Lettenbichler fought their own battle for the 2018 WESS crown with Bolt overcoming two crashes to finish 12th with Lettenbichler in 15th.
