Barr-illiant!

Motocross Martin Barr

Sometimes a change is as good as a rest and for newest Tyco Suzuki by TAS recruit Martin Barr that proved to be the case as he waltzed away with the overall at round two of the Red Bull Pro Nationals at FatCat Motoparc on Sunday.

In MX2 Emberson Yamaha's ferociously fast Frenchman Steven Lenoir doubled-up in conditions more Weston in October than Doncaster in June – with a biting wind and day-long rain in complete contrast to the hot sun of the series opener in Cornwall just three weeks before.

In the first of the points-paying pro races Lanes Kawasaki's Marc de Reuver put all of his GP experience to good use to pull the holeshot and start to check out, revelling in the deep sand that closely mimics the conditions in his native Holland. While the Dutchman motored clear the big fight was between Tyco team-mates Stephen Sword and Barr.

As the race hit half-distance series leader Swordy and Barr traded passes and as they encountered backmarkers it looked like the seasoned Scot had the upper hand.

But after ditching his goggles Barr regrouped for a last-ditch charge, closing the gap and eventually making a pass with only one lap to go.

Swordy's retaliation was short-lived as he overshot a corner, and went straight over the back of a huge berm to hand the Irishman a free run to the flag.

In the MX2 division Lenoir managed to hold onto his good start, leading home the 250Fs from team-mate Graeme Irwin and former champ Nev Bradshaw on the Evo-Tech Stevens Honda.

Second time out Barr, looking rejuvenated by his switch from green to yellow, grabbed the holeshot from de Reuver and Swordy while Irishman Irwin headed MX2 from Lenoir and South African Bradshaw in truly brutal conditions.

On the third lap de Reuver found himself eating sand allowing Swordy to pass, but he kept the to repass for second using a line no-one else knew existed!

A few laps later Lenoir caught and passed Irwin to set himself up for the overall.

As the laps counted down de Reuver tried everything he could to close the gap but his fall proved costly and Barr crossed the line to take an emotional victory.

Further back Lenoir was first MX2 man home for a well-deserved double, with Irwin second and Bradshaw rounding out the podium "It's been absolutely fantastic,” said Barr after topping the podium.

"It's been a tough couple of months but Tyco Suzuki have put a really good deal together and I'm really grateful because it was all a bit lastminute.com.

"The last few races I've been doubting myself but today just proved to me that I can do it.
