PLEASED with his new 2007 250 Beta Four-stroke, John Cowley enjoyed his trip to, the Central Wales Auto club's Black Hall trial on Sunday, round one of a four-round Radnor championship sponsored by Steve Plain, and shared equally with the Rhayadar club.

Run in bitterly cold weather where hail and snow were the order of the day, marks were high and 11 riders retired before the finish but most were full of praise for the course and the sections.

Runner-up in the Expert class Michael James had no answer to John Cowley but easily beat Tony Cowley on the day. Riding the same hard course, the new Welsh Youth C class champion Jack Welch proved his determination to ride the toughest sections wherever possible, lost a stack of marks but won the Youth Expert class ahead of Thomas Foulkes.

Riding over an easier course, Mark Vaughan scooped the Clubman class, clear of Stuart Essenhigh and Bryan Welch, but over the same course, ‘Veteran' Andy Roberton topped the keenly competitive Over 40 class four marks ahead of Vaughan. Runner-up Peter Edwards, out for the first time on a new 250cc Beta, beat Essenhigh and in third place, Over 40 rider, Mark Wells rode well enough for third in the Clubman class.

Simon Morgan won the Clubman Twin-shock class ahead of a close battle between Kevin Adams and Stuart Ruell but, over the same course young Welsh personality of the year, Joel Edwards, held a massive lead in the Clubman Youth class, beating Ashley Adams by over a ton of marks but Ashley will be back for more experience.

Dee Millard-Davies led the Sportsmen and Andy Lane and Mike Davies, in that order, were one mark apart in the Pre-65, but Tim Davies beat them both, on father Mike's Bultaco, to take the win in the Sportsman Twin-shock class.
