Brown on Peak form to blitz Bemrose

MICHAEL Brown ran out a convincing winner of last Sundays National Bemrose Trial.

The Gas Gas UK sponsored 2013 British Champ made amazingly light work of a very difficult, slippery course set in the Peak District and staged by North Derbyshire Youth MCC with help from their friends in the Manchester 17 and Macclesfield clubs.

The weather dominated the day when, typically, following a balmy Saturday as the trial was laid-out, Sunday turned nasty with low-lying cloud and incessant precipitation turning many of the sections into absolute skating rinks, with the limestone base offering little grip in the dry.

Just walking some of them was difficult, with many a rider taking a backside-thumping tumble and riding them was even harder.

The weather forecast may have had something to do with it but there was a higher than expected number of non-starters from the mighty 150 strong entry list.

And the rate of attrition was pretty high too, with no fewer than 27 retirals, more than a few who had had enough following the opening loop of 13 hazards in the Kidtor Dale, Staden Quarry and Wrights groups of sections.
