Butts Quarry threatened closure: track in court this week - help save this much-loved endangered dirt bike haven

The underfire Butts Quarry track continues its fight for survival with a forced day in court this week, and you can do your bit to help save another endangered dirt bike haven.

Thousands of people signed a petition to save the long-running and much-loved track when the track's owners announced the local Council had served them with a noise abatement notice at the end of 2020.

And now, in the latest update in the long and unwelcome saga, Jennifer Dring said they expected to be in court for the judicial review this Thursday and Friday (March 31 and April 1).

They are appealing the decision by North East Derbyshire District Council after being floored by a noise abatement notice just two days before Christmas in 2020.

Despite its almost secret setting, the venue is coming under fire from locals who would prefer that off-road motorcycling happens somewhere other than their own backyard - even if they did move to the area long after the land was established as a motorsports venue.

TMX has continued to promote an online petition set up by the track owners, and since then, it has received backing from thousands of off-road enthusiasts and locals too.

Jennifer, co-owner of the Butts Quarry, said it's been a costly period for the Dring family. Husband, Barry, estimated the total cost of the case for both sides could reach 45,000 and said all the money made at the track for nearly 12 months had been spent on legal fees to fight the case.

They have been living this for over a year, said Jennifer: "Every time we've opened those gates, every penny has gone to our solicitors."

With the help of the video below, the Dring family are asking for one more push to sign the petition.

Watch below dirt bike patrons share their love and joy of Butts Quarry. We can't bear the thought of Butts one of the oldest tracks in the country joining the shockingly long list of closed tracks. So, share this story and if you haven't already done so, consider signing the petition here.

More news on this will follow in the coming days.
