CROWTHORNE Youth Trials Club staged the penultimate round (Rd 11) of the Thames Valley Trials Combine at Hook Woods Trial Centre, West Horsley, in Surrey, and there was a bright and sunny start for the 61 riders that set off on one minute intervals to tackle the eight demanding sections to be ridden five times.

Section one, observed by Richard Thomas of the Normandy club, gave the Experts a lot of trouble, twisting up and down the banks, but it was the many rocks that caused the marks to stack up. Once at the top rock it was a lift to get the front wheel round to come down landing on your back wheel. No clean sheets for any Experts and many were recording five after five. Alan Allaway got through this gruelling section on his last attempt for a three and he was well-chuffed with his performance.
Inter riders did not go completely to the top of the rocks and Danny Pitman on the new Scorpa had a clean sheet on this one, his purple shirt clashed with the Scorpa's graphics.
Section two and Blues and Whites had a three foot slab to go up, then the railway sleepers. Blues had to tackle a sandy hillclimb which did not create any problems for the current Inter combine leader Terry Tidbury. Youth Expert rider Joe Harris on the Gas Gas cleaned it on his very first attempt.
