Fry's delight at Jersey triumph

THIS year, the BVM, Condor Ferries and Education, Sport and Culture-sponsored Jersey Two-Day Trial was won by mainland youngster, James Fry. The 19-year-old Tadley club rider lifted the Two-Day trophy at only his third attempt.

Beaten convincingly into second place last year, it was the turn of this much improved rider to accomplish a similar result this year, as he lost less than half the number of penalties of his nearest rival.
The 77-strong Clubman class result went to an extremely elated Rod Broom, who, for the last two years, has been the class bridesmaid.
A remarkably dry trial this time round, unlike the torrential rain of last year. There was dry ground where ponds should have been and hardly a drop of mud to be seen to soil the machinery.
Saturday's three laps of 18-sections (yes, 18 each day! Not the usual 20) were as last year, at Jubilee Hill, Mont Rossignol and St Peters Valley.
Fry and runner-up Matthew McDonald were evenly matched with their Sherco 290s on the grippy rock sections at Jubilee, picking up five and seven marks respectively. The terrain was similar at Mont Rossignol, but that is where the similarity ended as Fry stepping up a gear, consistently cleaning all six sections.
