May 30 '04 is the date and Gore Basin on the Isle of Wight is the place - stick it in your diary now.And that's not the only good news. A three-year option should ensure that we can enjoy a home GP up to and including 2007.The deal was signed at the recent German GP at Gaildorf when a team from the organising RTT Racing Club, including our very own Jeff Perrett, agreed terms with FIM president Wolfgang Srb and Giuseppe Luongo of GP promoters Youthstream."It's very important for British motocross to have our own GP," says RTT director Rob Bradley. "Over the last few years so many people have made half-hearted attempts but I don't do half-hearted."The venue hosted its first event in June when it was the setting for round six of the Maxxis British championship. Although the meeting was a success, problems with people trying to catch earlier ferries than their bookings have raised concerns that the ferry system can't handle the large numbers expected to attend the GP.To allay these fears, extra ferries will be laid on to deal with the anticipated influx of MX fans to the island. Although, even if left untouched, the ferry schedule for May provides a whopping 216 trips daily catering for 60,000 return passengers."This is great news," reckons ACU MX committee chairman Roy Humphrey. "The people on the Isle of Wight showed that they can prepare and organise a top level event earlier this year and there is no doubt that the ACU will do all it can to provide any necessary support to make this one of the best GPs on the calendar."
