It's Hawkstone time

Motocross

THE dust may have barely settled on the memories of last year, but the gate is ready to drop on yet another eagerly anticipated season of International and domestic motocross.

Salop Motor Club once again has the great honour of opening up the proceedings on a grand scale on Sunday, March 4. As always, Hawkstone Park will be the fitting venue for the club's ninth annual International meeting where some of the world's finest motocross riders will begin their 2007 campaigns proper.

The famous sandy circuit has always played an important part in global motocross and this year promises to be no different.

The 2007 season marks a new era in world motocross with the old guard of Stefan Everts and Joel Smets having now bowed out of the sharp end of racing.

Their retirement leaves an exciting opportunity for the younger contenders to make their mark on the Inter-national stage and to take their first steps to becoming legends in their own rights.

The closed season has created the usual session of swapping saddles, but few winter periods have resulted in such dramatic changes and such an eagerly awaited line up of top riders on new mounts.

Josh Coppins heads the list of transfers, having re-placed Everts at Rinaldi Yamaha. The likeable Kiwi will have a point to prove after having sat out most of 2006 through injury, and there will be no better place for him to put down his mark than here on the famous Hawkstone hill. After his first win recently, at the opening round of the Italian champs at Montevarchi in Italy, former British champion looks back to his brilliant best.

HAWKSTONE Park motocross circuit is centrally located in the UK, just off the A49 Shrewsbury to Whitchurch Road near to the villages of Hopton and Hodnet, and the A53 Shrewsbury to Market Drayton Road.

The exit off the A49 can be found between B5065 and B5063 and is sign posted Booley/ Stanton.

Do NOT get confused with signposts directing you to ‘The Hawkstone Park Golf Club' or ‘The Hawkstone Follies' all lovely in their own rights - BUT NOT MOTOCROSS!

If in doubt you can check out the Hawkstone International web site which can be found at: www.hawkstonemx.co.uk for further directions.
