Mugen unleash E.REX

Motocross Mugen

The name Mugen will be forever associated with super-trick 80s Honda-based motocross machines - well, at least in our minds it will be - but the company is still alive and well and is now at the cutting edge of electric motorsports.

Mugen's Shinden model has won the last three Isle of Man TT Zero Challenge titles and now this industry-leading technology has been channelled into the company's Mugen E.Rex motocross machine.

The prototype was displayed at this week's 44th Tokyo Motorcycle Show where its unconventional appearance proved to be a real head-turner.

A press release that accompanied these images explains the, er, unique look...

"Mugen has taken the conceptual image of the powerful dinosaur, T-REX, that dominated the prehistoric Earth as an inspiration for the design and development of this electric off-road racer."

While the plastics and graphics may only appeal to die-hard Godzilla fans there's no doubt that it's nothing but good news for off-road e-bike development when a company with the race pedigree of Mugen gets involved.
