Britain's Ben Watson shines in the wet, rough and rutty conditions of Valkenswaard

Ben Watson is starting to show the speed and skill his fans know he is capable of after handling the wet, rough and rutty conditions in Valkenswaard for the MXGP of The Netherlands, delivering a top-five finish for the Factory Yamaha team.

Watsons Qualifying Race was challenging for the 22-year-old Brit, crossing the line in 14th but it didn't stop him from two excellent results in the points-paying motos on Sunday.

In the opening moto, Watson's team-mate Jago Geerts dominated the race while Ben patiently found his rhythm after a decent start, clawing his way to fifth.

Watson put in a strong ride in the second moto, taking the chequers in fourth place for fifth overall boosting him up to eighth position in the standings.

This weekend was a lot better for me, said Watson. I struggled a bit at the beginning of the weekend because the track was really heavy, and I am still missing a bit of bike time. These are not easy conditions to build back into racing, but I managed to take two good starts and build from there. Its a nice step forward from Matterley.

Watson is already looking forward to the next round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, which will take place in Villa la Angostura, Argentina on the weekend of March 21.
