Jorge Prado has posted an injury update after his crash with Jeffrey Herlings at the MXGP of Germany.

In an update via social media, Prado confirmed he had received treatment at the hospital revealing he required surgery on his upper torso.

Although he has completed the initial care, and all went well, there is some uncertainly to the full extent of the damage caused by the handlebars impaling the armpit.

He now faces an anxious wait ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix of France.

Medics stretchered Prado off the Talkessel circuit at the MXGP of Germany after crashing mid-air with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate Herlings as they both took the chequered flag fractions of a second apart.

As they jumped the finish line and took the chequers, Herlings went straight, while Prado appeared to jump across.

While Prado was removed from the track by stretcher, Herlings quickly got up and appeared to have a slight limp as he walked away from the carnage. The Dutchman later revealed he had a knock to his knee Herlings hopes to be fully fit for the French GP.

Prado can ill afford more dropped points if he wants to keep alive aspirations of a first MXGP title. A heavy crash scuppered Prado's first race in Turkey when he was in a position to score 25 points. And although he won the opening moto in Germany, the injuries from the crash meant he could not make the line for the second race.

In Prado's first social media post since the controversial incident, he thanked fans for the messages of encouragement. He added: "As you know, after winning the first moto at the German GP, Jeffrey and I collided after the finish line, digging the handlebars into my armpit and having to undergo surgery that same night.

"Fortunately, everything went well, but I don't know the real extent of the injury. See you soon."

Since the contentious issue, a considerable amount of vile online abuse has targeted Prado. Unfortunately, the abuse intensified when he didn't address the cause of the crash.
