Shaun Simpson sits out both Turkey MXGPs

SS24 MXGP privateer Shaun Simpson has unsurprisingly opted out of travelling to Turkey for the double-header, which starts this weekend.

The multi-time British champion was put in a difficult situation when the UK Government put Turkey on the Red List. If you have visited a Red List country, you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you are a British or Irish National or have residence rights in the UK. However, it will also mean booking a "quarantine hotel" for a 10-night stay.

Simpson would have to give up any hope of racing at the final round of the ACU British Motocross Championship. And then there's a costly 10-night quarantine in a hotel for him and anyone else in his travelling party.

With two GPs set to be held in quick succession, Simpson has to give up a bunch of points-paying motos, while Conrad Mewse for example, who has now won the MX2 British title, is in a different position. He could skip the final MXGB round at Landrake.

However, we understand Mewse and Adam Sterry will instead attend the Red Bull Pro Stroke National, so they are out too.

"Turkey is a no go for us again this weekend," said Simpson. "with it still being on the Red list we wouldnt make it back for the last round of the British championship. Tough one to call but weve got our sights set on the next round of MXGP in Riola Sardo. Recharged and ready to get it."
