Team France has revealed the RedBud MXoN 2022 rider line-up with Maxime Renaux, Marvin Musquin, and Dylan Ferrandis selected to wear the French team colours at RedBud MX in Buchanan, Michigan, USA on September 24-25.

The Fdration Franaise de Motocyclisme (FFM) said the objective was clear: to win back the Chamberlain Trophy they last won in 2018 at RedBud and then wear the 1,2 and 3 plates when the Motocross of Nations heads to Erne next year.

France's blue, white and red delegation will attempt to win the MXoN for a seventh time at RedBud with reigning MX2 champion Renaux selected for the MXGP berth, Ferrandis in the Open category and just as intriguing, Musquin returning to the 250cc mount for the all-important MX2 slot.

The FFM has an embarrassment of riches to select from and could comfortably select two teams capable of climbing the Motocross of Nations podium in 2022.

The 2022 Motocross of Nations will be Renaux's debut in the competition.

Ferrandis is a two-time winner of the Motocross of Nations with victory at egums in 2014 and RedBud in 2018.

Musquin is a one-time winner of the Motocross of Nations with victory at Erne in 2015.

Left out of the squad are Romain Febvre, Tom Vialle and Thibault Benistant. Although Febvre has only recently returned to competition after a lengthy injury layoff, he has already been impressive on his MXGP return. Benistant is a rising MX2 star and has shown great raw speed this season, but it's not surprising he missed out, especially with a shoulder injury. Vialle is in an intense fight for the MX2 crown with Jago Geerts. The omission of the North America-bound rider from the French squad for Musquin, who hasn't ridden motocross this year, will be perplexing to some. Although some reports suggest Vialle wasn't up for riding in the competition this year.

There were other options open. For instance, Febvre could have taken the MXGP spot, and Renaux could have stepped down to take the MX2 slot.

It looks like the French team is leaning on the experience and logistics available in the States perhaps this has swayed the decision process.
