Todd Waters' GP return is short-lived

MXGP Todd Waters

Todd Waters GP return lasted just two practice sessions and five laps of qualification before the Australian fractured his right collarbone after going over the bars.

Although he was preparing to race in the US until he got the GP call, the Queenslander was inevitably a little rusty initially after concentrating on supercross for the last year-and-a-half back home but he was just getting into the swing of things to move forward to eighth before the incident.

Well there is not much to say, really, he said. It was my first day back in MXGP and obviously I was a bit nervous but in the race I managed to get all the way up to the top 10 and had a good pace, he said.

I was in eighth place and closing in on Jeremy Seewer but then I jumped a bit too long on the uphill double, landed straight into the braking bump and got thrown over the handlebar.

Obviously Im devastated this is surely not the way I wanted my MXGP return to be but thats racing.

All we can do now is to do whatever is needed to be back on track as soon as possible.

I want to thank the team for their outstanding work as I was really enjoying riding the bike.

Waters has now had an operation to plate the break and is hoping to be back in action as soon as possible.

My girlfriend is flying from Australia and shes a physiotherapist so towards the end of the week well start with the rehab programme, he added.

Its the collarbone so its not the end of the world it has happened to me before and we have a strong programme in place to get back to racing as soon as possible.

The team has been so supportive all along. This is nice it makes me feel at home and welcome in the Honda family. I feel privileged and even more motivated to get back and do well.

HRC again faces the predicament of what to do with its second set of CRF450RWs. Brian Bogers is in plaster to just below the knee after his most recent operation and muscle wastage will mean he will need many weeks to rebuild even after he gets medical clearance to train.

They could do worse than give the deal to Arminas Jasikonis a proven MXGP podium runner setting top grade lap times but without a hope in racing as his Red Moto CRF450 is a gutless slug out of the gate.
