New 125cc 2 stroke European Championship announced

During the conference it was also announced that a new European series dedicated to 2 stroke 125cc bikes will be organized together with the World MX1 and MX2 Championships in a total of six/seven events starting in 2010.

GiuseppeLuongo, the Youthstream President, stated: "The 2009 FIM Motocross WorldChampionship continues to grow, we will continue to invest on the televisionproduction, on the infrastructures, on the promotion, on the comfort for theriders, the teams and the spectators. We have realized everything which waspromised. The TV production will have the live on board camera and the jimmyjib, the new pit lane is set up, the Pit Lounge is fully operational and themany other improvements can be already seen in the venue. The Championship willbe broadcast online live and free of charge with Freecaster.tv. In 2010 we willstart the new 125cc 2 stroke UEM European Championship in six/seven eventstogether with the MX1 and MX2 series. This will help the young riders and theirfamilies to reduce the costs.”

Dr.Wolfgang Srb, the FIM/CMS President, continued: "Everybody is very excited atthe kick-off of the 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship season. We havefinished last year in Faenza and we start the 2009 Championship also at thischallenging track. The teams have already done a couple of pre-season races inorder to get ready. Today we will see the best riders in the world startingtheir race for the 2009 titles in MX1 and MX2 as well as for the Veteran WorldCup. I wish them all the best of luck!”

Aftera successful 2008 season when the series had more than 1 billion TV viewers,more than 3.5 million visitors to the Youthstream web-site and more than 600million News Paper and Magazine readers there are great expectations for2009.

Theentrance of new main sponsors such as Teka and Braun, the continuous support ofRed Bull, KTM and Hyundai, lay a strong base which is enriched by many noveltiessuch as a stronger television coverage, a better organized paddock receiving thefull timing and TV feed, more opportunities and promotional tools for thepartners involved in the series.

The2009 FIM Motocross World Championship will visit 14 countries through 15 events,starting in Faenza this weekend and ending in Canelinha, Brazil, on September13.
