With almost a decade to fine tune things somewhat its little surprise that the 10th edition of the Vets MXdN was the GOAT thats the Greatest Of All Time in case youve had your head buried in sand since the phrase was coined at the turn of the century.

Undoubtedly helped along by the weather, the worlds greatest gathering of vintage motocross bikes, clothing, racers and enthusiasts all came together at Farleigh Castle for an amazing weekend of mostly two-stroke, high-octane, off-road action! Unlike most years there was very little negativity surrounding this years bash as people popped along, had a great time and the majority even took their rubbish home with them result!

Of course, at a nostalgia bash like this results arent always all that important but it was nice to see Kurt Nicoll taking us back to his heyday by finishing second no fewer than four times sounds familiar in his motos and twice overall too. Top runnering-up there Kaptain Kurt, sir! His time-appropriate race bike was also a nice touch too...

Someone who Id be less pleased to see finish second in something is Toby Martyn who goes into the final round of the Trial2 World Championship this weekend with a five point lead in the series standings over Italys Matteo Grattarola. No stress you might think until you consider that the events being held on Italian soil with Italian observers! Dun duuunnnn duuuunnnn

Now you might think its unlikely that officials from a certain place might act in a certain way that ultimately hinders another to elevate their own but you only have to look at Saturday nights Speedway Grand Prix for evidence that stuff like that actually happens in real life.

The incident Im on about is the Tai Woffinden exclusion from Heat 16 of the Slovenian GP where the Polish referee removed the world championship leader from the race after it was deemed that he wasnt ready to come under starters orders when the countdown clock got to zero.

The refs decision was right to a degree because admittedly Tai wasnt ready but if you look at the TV coverage then neither were any of the other three it seems he was singled out unfairly. Dun duuunnnn duuuunnnn

That exclusion potentially cost Tai nine world championship points and came at a time when Polish star Bartosz Zmarzlik was on a bit of a win streak which allowed him to close in on Woffinden by seven points in the series standings although it could have actually been much, much more.

The end result is that the referees decision could change the outcome of the world championship much in the same way a rogue Italian observer could influence the outcome of the Trial2 championship chase. Lets hope thats not the case and the series is settled fairly and squarely

One thing that cant be swayed by dodgy adjudicators is the 2018 edition of the TMX Awards in association with Bridgestone. Votes and Unsung Hero nominations close on September 19 so this is the last chance youve got to make your voice heard and ensure the right people/bikes/products win the right awards.

And remember you could even be crowned TMX Reader of the Year too
