Heres another Classic Rebuild from Sussex specialist Boretech Engineering.

This 1966 Greeves Challenger arrived at the Boretech workshop in a scruffy state, running poorly and with only two of the four gears working. The team took pity on the Challenger and decided to buy it and race it!

Starting with a total strip-down, every component was checked and the frame shot-blasted in-house and repaired, including the fabrication and fitting of a new rear mudguard loop, a notorious weak spot on the Challenger.

The frame was then repainted in the original silver. According to the frame number, this bike was originally fitted with Ceriani 35mm forks, not the banana ones it arrived with. Boretech found an original set of Challenger Cherries which were stripped, resealed and serviced and the yokes shot-blasted and painted.

As this was intended as a race bike, rather than a show bike, it was fitted with Renthal bars and modern levers with on the fly adjusters. All the cables were made in-house at Boretech and a modern, more robust, throttle assembly fitted.

The motor was rebuilt and fitted with a new conrod. The crankcases were shot-blasted, the clutch and gearbox covers polished and the cylinder and head repainted. The gearbox was actually in good nick, but had been wrongly assembled.

This was quickly sorted, but while it was in pieces, new bronze bushes were made in-house and fitted. A new Amal carb was fitted to keep it within pre-1968 class rules and the airbox repaired and updated to allow the fitting of a new filter cage and Twin Air filter.

A rare, new old stock exhaust system was sourced and fitted to replace the badly beaten up one it came with and Boretech hand-built their own custom shocks for the rear and rebuilt the wheels with new rims and Michelin tyres.

To top it all off, a new seat, new fibreglass side panels and tank were fitted along with original spec alloy mudguards.
