It’s highly unlikely that anyone reading this doesn’t know that next week, Monday to Saturday, May 6-11 is The Scottish Six Days Trial, which is based as usual in Fort William, deep in the Highlands.
The World’s biggest and best-known event was previewed in last week’s paper but here’s a last minute precis for anyone who missed it. The 2019 trial boasts a full house 280 riders who will face six different, challenging days and complete a total of over 500 miles of road, track and open moor during the six days.
All the routes, groups and sections are available now to view on the organising Edinburgh & DMC event website ssdt.org. Dougie Lampkin, Vertigo team manager, development rider and brand ambassador, is the most successful SSDT rider of all time – by some margin – and goes in search of an incredible 13 Scottish victories.
It is expected that Beta factory star and twice a Scottish winner James Dabill will be Doug’s main challenger once again. But there’s a whole host of riders who can be up there and gunning
for Best on Day individual honours as well as a podium or a top-10 placing.
The next two weeks’ TMX News issues will be packed with Scottish reporting starting next Thursday with a full run down on the Pre-65 Two Day in words and pics and also pics from Sunday’s Six Days Weigh-in (scrutineering) and unique parade where all 280 riders get to strut their stuff down Fort William High Street.
We’ll then fill you in on Monday’s first-day action building to a climax with a full day-by-day SSDT wrap the following week. It’s a building up to a tartan treat!
