2018 British TrialGP preview

By Team TMX on 29th Aug 18

Trial World Championship

While British MotoGP fans are no doubt still fuming about waiting for hours and hours and hours before the big race was finally rained off last weekend you can guarantee that TrialGP fans wont suffer the same fate at Addingham Moorside on Sunday.

And thats because no matter what the elements throw at the Yorkshire venue the show will go on regardless but just so you know, as things stand, the forecast is looking fantastic for two great days of feet-up sport.

Super Spaniard Toni Bou (Repsol Honda) is poised to claim a straight 12th world title as he brings a 23-point lead into the penultimate round of the 2018 world championship. A second place will secure the title but Bou doesnt like being beaten full stop and will no doubt be looking to clinch it from the top step of the podium.

Jeroni Fajardo (Gas Gas), Jaime Busto (Gas Gas) and Adam Raga (TRRS) are still in with a mathematical chance of winning the whole shebang and will of course be battling it out for the lower placed FIM medals as well. All three riders are very capable of pulling it off on the day and are a threat to Bous dominance.

Currently seventh in the TrialGP series, James Dabill will be looking for a home boost to help him chase down Takahisa Fujinami in the series standings. That said, as Dougie Lampkins former team-mate its hard to imagine that Fujigas hasnt spent a whole lot of time up here training in Dougies backyard over the years which might negate that advantage somewhat.

Emma Bristow

Still, the lift of a home crowd normally works its magic so please give your all for Dibs along with Gas Gas Jack Price and TRRS Iwan Roberts in the premier class.

Toby Martyn and the Peace brothers (Dan and Jack) need your support in Trial2. Martyn brings a slender two-point championship lead over Italian stallion Matteo Grattarola while Dan and Jack are embroiled in a brother-on-brother scrap for fourth in the championship:

Dan currently sits on a five-point buffer over Jack. With the final round held in Matteos stomping ground, Toby really needs to make this one count if hes gonna clinch that title.

Emma Bristow has so far gone unbeaten in the TrialGP Women series and is a shoo-in to clinch her fifth world title on Sunday. Silsden is the final round in the 2018 world series for the female riders and while Bristows 17-point advantage isnt unassailable itd take a bit of a disaster for Emma not to pull it off. Like Bou though shed much rather win with a win than get by with the bare minimum.

Scorpas Jess Bown will be looking to end the season on a high to consolidate her ninth place series ranking while wildcard Donna Fox could certainly mix things up in her first world championship appearance of the year.

In Trial2 Women the leading Brits: Alicia Robinson and Victoria Payne: are deadlocked with Hanne Haga for eighth in the series standings on 22 points apiece meaning whoever comes out on top on the day will ultimately win that battle.

Italys Alex Brancati leads the way on maximum points and like Bristow is likely to be crowned world champion on Sunday afternoon.

The action kicks off at Addingham at nine on Saturday morning with practice for all classes, before the important business of qualification to determine Sundays starting order gets underway just after lunch.

The championship trial itself starts bright and early on Sunday morning with the first rider away at nine am
