Club Reports

East Anglia SSC staged the first round of the Pro Green Winter Championship at Mepal and after some horrendous weather leading up to the event the sun shone on the day and the rain stayed away.

The first class in action was the Autos which produced some great racing with the overall going to Shaun Mahoney, who was consistent but didn't have any race wins. With one race win apiece but some mixed results in the other races, second place went to James Parr and third to Archie Girdham.

Wal Beaney took the first two Junior 65cc race wins but a DNF in the last race, due to bike issues, caused him to drop outside the top six.

So top spot in the class also went to another rider who didn't post a race win; however, a 2-4-3 card was enough to give Kyle Ingram top spot. There was some great riding between Billy Moriarty and Charlie Reynolds finished the podium off with second and third respectively.

In Small-wheel 85cc Ike Carter was the boss with all three wins for maximum points. Bobby Bruce cruised home in second with Ben Clark and Travis Steels on joint points for third but Ben enjoyed the verdict with a better position in the final race.

Next out were the Big-wheel 85cc's and there were some great battles on the deeply rutted circuit.

With three different race winners Ryan Allison and Josh Peters tied on points for first place. Allison took the win, with Peters second and Declan Hunter rounded out the podium.

The Seniors have always been one to watch and Sunday didn't prove any different.

Aaron Ongley took three race wins for top spot but the man of the meeting was Drew Anderson who only turned 14 in November and has just moved up from the BW class for his first race on the 125.

Drew gave it his all and rode to second place ahead of third Arthur Williams.

AMX was next up with 35 riders chomping at the bit. Robert Yates had his work cut out with some close racing between him and Jack Eldridge, but managed to stay ahead of the pack for three maximums with Eldridge taking three seconds. Dean Smith pushed hard in each race races but it was only enough for third spot.

A smaller than usual Veteran class was next out and Mark Houson took the overall with a 1-1-3 card. Daniel Askew tried hard but, despite a win in race three, it wasn't enough to knock Houson off the top spot. Paul claimed third place.

Last but not least was the Open class where Richard McKeown and Luke Gidney went into the last race tied on points.

Gidney kept pushing McKeown, but it wasn't enough and McKeown took the win. Rob Wood followed Luke home in third spot.
