THE build-up to the opening round of the National Putoline Hare Scramble Championship at Driffield had been busy for the organising True Grit crew Paddy Langhan, recovering from a serious knee injury, had been hard at work driving a machine regrading parts of the course, while the rest of the crew were plotting new routes for the massive entry, which topped the 500 mark - truly outstanding for a Hare Scramble event.

The course was over eight miles in length and used a mixture of young plantations, gravel tracks, rough grass fields and an interesting quarry with a ride time of approximately 20 minutes for an Expert rider which meant refuelling for the Experts would be critical - could they get away with one or two refuelling stops?

The weekend's action kicked off on Saturday at 10am with a Sandiford Honda try-out, where riders got the chance to test the CRF250X in race conditions

At 2pm, Saturday's main feature was the first round of the National Putoline Youth Hare Scramble Champion-ship with three classes.

With over 90 Youth riders the stage was set for a great race. On a shortened track and a race duration of 90 minutes, weather conditions were favourable with clear blue skies and warm sunshine.
