ONE of the great highlights of the British motocross year is almost upon us once again with the announcement that entries are now open for the original and best evening series of them all; The Rhayader Evening Motocross Series. And the big news for the 2008 series is that the organising Rhayader MC has upped the prize-fund once more by a big £1,000 per night to a very sizeable £3,500 which means that the top Expert class rider on the night could walk away with an amazing £950 for their night's work. Now if that prospect doesn't attract the top-quality entry that Rhayader MC is hoping to get then nothing will.
Always a hugely popular event with riders and fans alike – up to 5,000 spectators line the fence regulalry – the 2008 series will again run on three Wednesday nights across the summer starting on May 28 with the opening round and following-up with the second two events on June 18 and July 9.
As per the tried and tested Rhayader format there will three classes in action at each round – Expert MX1/MX2, Seniors & Juniors, and Novice & Local Beginners. All groups will get three races on the night, as well as the MX1/MX2 ‘Dash for Cash' grand final
Prize money is also on offer for the Senior and Junior classes while the Novice class wil recieve trophies for their endeavours.
Rhayader is understandably an incredibly popular series and fills-up very quickly, particularly in the Ringers, sorry, Novice, class so riders interested in entering need to get their act together fast and enter.
To obtain entry forms, simply send an SAE to Miss Anna Humphreys, 9 Sunnyfields, Mill Street, Rhayader, Powys. LD6 5BP, or by printing them off the club website www.rdmcc.co.uk.
Anyone with any queries can contact Anna on 07980-794152 after 7pm.
Work at Cwmythig Hill has already been started by the small but very hard working Rhayader Club, hopefully making the series even better again this summer.
