ONCE again a well supported Youth line-up took part in the second round of WOR Events' new FMF Junior Hare Scramble event at Carrog Isa, Corwen. This was the second of the six-round series and the setting, and weather, could not have been better.
Starting at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon the Up to 65cc class were given a 2.2 mile circuit with 1.5-hours to go at it. The larger capacity bikes from 85cc through to 150cc were given two-hours and the full 5.5-mile loop.
What an event it turned out to be, with both the kids and their parents leaving at the end of proceedings having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There is no doubt the stunning weather, coupled with the brilliant setting helped influence those smiles.
The racing was superb with the junior off-road warriors taking the challenging, rocky downhill by the finish in their stride, even the bumpy, whooped out climb from the paddock had the mini Knighters flying over the tops.
In the Up to 65cc group, Jack Edmondson took the honours just like round one with a clear one lap victory over second-placed Brad Edwards.
With a surname like Edmondson and a family of off-road legends, little Jack is under a bit of pressure before he starts! Not that you would know though as he carefully selected his lines and got faster as the race went on.
Edwards in second place established a five-minute advantage over third placed Jack Fewings.
The Small-wheel 85cc class victory went to Devon-based Dominic Thomas. Charlie Nichols put in another podium ride and third place went to Katie Walker with a solid ride. Dominic almost pulled a complete five-miles onNichols, although Charlie did have some problems
earlier on.
The Big-wheel 85cc class had a number of close scraps. First off Bryn Phillips secured a solid third place from Richard Bleasdale in fourth, but at the sharp end, Simon Jones and Joe Wootton were engaged in a right old battle with Jones hounding Wootton for the entire duration. In the end, just 14-seconds separated the pair and Wootton was victorious.
Finally, in the big Up to 150cc group, that man Gethin Humphries again stormed to a clear two-minute advantage over Josh Snowden. Both Humphries and Snowden were riding years ahead of their age and will definitely be stars of the future. The third placed trophy went to the ever competitive Morgan Lewis. All the top three completed nine-laps.
