Gas Gas pretty much set the benchmark for trials bikes and trials bike sales. Whatever the Girona factory are doing is a pretty good indication of whats what in the feet-up world.

Their range of two-stroke trials models is legend and the TXT PRO range, despite amazingly
being a decade in the mix, has been constantly evolving, while the 2013 PRO range, comprising 125/ 250/ 280/ 300 models, really does provide a bike for everyone.

And if you don't believe that then maybe the even higher specced Racing models will fill any tiny gaps you may have spotted!

The models are all variationson a common theme and if you aren't au-fait with what comprises a Gas Gas trials model then here's the basics.

Chassis is a simple but strong perimeter style, lightweight chrom-moly steel tube construction that underwent a clever, good-looking and practical redesign three years ago.

This provided a more elegant rear shock mount and allowed a thorough re-think of the exhaust and airbox.

The engine is a reed valve (fed by Del Orto carburettor), water-cooled two-stroke, incorporating a six-speed gearbox and car-type clutch, all somehow incorporated into a set of crankcases that typify engineering in miniature.

Marzocchi 40mm forks up front and a Sachs shock operating through a linkage at the rear sort the suspension, while 2013 sees a return to the old-favourite AJP hydraulics (clutch and brakes) following a spell with Formula kit.

Familiar swoopy plastics and up-to-the-minute graphics complete the 2013 picture. John Shirt Jr told us that the factory had
discussed the ‘age' of the model line and some were keen to implement change, or a different ‘look' just for the sake of it.

John's response was, "Why fix what ain't broke?” The TXT PRO has got where it is by careful and considered constant development and it would be crazy to undo a decade of productive work just for change's sake.

As ever with Gas Gas, choice is the name of the game.

We've said it before and we'll say it again you really should get along to a Gas Gas test day and TRY the different models.

It is not as simple as 125/ 250/ 280/ 300 because it is not just about engine capacity. It is all about the state of tune.

Each model's engine is set-up very differently and you need to find out which one suits you best.

As ever, we'll do our best to give you a good idea of what to expect from each model.

WOODY HOLE is your guide...
