Friends race through the night to help injured mate

Four ambitious riders will be taking on one of the most challenging enduros the UK has to offer over the August bank holiday weekend to raise funds for an injured riding friend.

Jon Alexander, James Barnes, Darren Downes and Kev Perkins will compete in the 24-hour class of the infamous Dawn to dusk enduro in two teams of two, hoping to withstand all that the relentlessly unforgiving welsh terrain will throw at them over the course of a full night and day in order to raise money for Steve Rouse, who suffered life changing paralysis after an accident while green laning in 2015.

Having remained incredibly positive in the face of the challenges posed by his injuries following his crash, Steve is in need of rehabilitation at the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital, which will hopefully allow him to regain the use of his arms and provide him with a much better quality of life overall.

Steve himself is no stranger to Dawn to dusk, having previously provided mechanical support for a friend competing in the event, which takes place on the 1100 acre site of a former open cast coal mine in the Brecon beacons and has previously attracted riders including Graham Jarvis, Cyril Despres and geordie funnyman Ross Noble.

The huge physical, mental and mechanical challenges the race will pose are not lost on the team, who have been working hard to prepare themselves for what will undoubtedly be the toughest thing they've ever faced on two wheels:

"I know it's going to be really hard work, but I've wanted to race the 24 hour class for some time" says Darren.

"And knowing we'll be helping Steve will definitely give me an extra push to keep going when my arms and legs want to explode!"
