The venue for the opening round of the 2019 Apico 2-Stroke Festival, scheduled for May 25-26, has been switched from Marshfield to Sellindge MX in Kent.

Organiser Dave Willet was left with little choice after a lack of entries, despite healthy numbers of riders registering for the series. Its frustrating, he said.

We have plenty of registrations for the series but they havent all converted into actual bookings for Marshfield.

"Personally, Im gutted as I really wanted to take the festival to Marshfield the circuit has been revamped to a high spec and its looking prime.

"It appears that there are a number of other racing events in the locality over the same weekend and I think that has impacted on our numbers.

Its great that riders are registering, however, if they dont follow up that registration and book in then as in this instance we are left in a vulnerable situation.

"Unfortunately, its just not viable for us to run at Marshfield as the numbers dont stack up.

"I cant stress how much it saddens me to switch at this stage.

"As a racer myself, I do understand the inconvenience caused by late changes. Its not a decision Ive taken lightly.

Ive been in contact with those already booked in and no-one should be out of pocket. Sellindge is a superbly-prepped track and is a great catchment area for racing talent. Its already on target to be a well-supported and well-attended event, fitting for the status of the series and its valued sponsors.

Theres now an even bigger incentive for two-stroke enthusiasts to get on board and register for the series. Red Bull is supporting the series by backing two action-packed days for two-stroke riders only and theyll be free to all registered riders.

Apico 2-Stroke Festival entries are available here

Just over 2,000 in prize money will be available at every round of the series with one lucky 85cc pilot set to benefit from a 5,000 sponsorship package next season from Apico Factory Racing.

The dates for the 2019 season are as follows:
May 25th and 26th Sellindge MX, Kent
August 31st and September 1st Sellindge MX, Kent
