The 87th edition of the FIM International Six Days Enduro got off to a promising start as 473 competitors from the 36 nations enjoyed a challenging opening days competition in Saxony, Germany.

Immediately France set the pace in the World Trophy Team competition as they won day one but Britain's youngsters hold a solid second in the Junior Trophy competition.

Without question the standout British performer on day one of this year's ISDE was 125cc Husaberg-mounted Jamie
McCanney.

Drafted into the Trophy team to replace the injured David Knight, Jamie ended up on the first page of the overall individual results in an impressive 35th – ahead of riders like Marko Tarkkala, Mike Brown, Jeremy Joly and Marcus Kehr.

Placing as high as sixth in the E1 class, Jamie spent the day racing in among Enduro 3 class riders, as that was where Knighter was set to compete.

The highest-placed 125cc rider, the young Manxman didn't hold back in his ISDE debut.

"It was a good day,” remarked Jamie, pleased to have the first day over and done with.

"It was a bit strange being in with the E3 class riders, but it wasn't a problem.

"The enduro test was tough, but the motocross test was great. Some sections were quite tight, which suited my 125.

"It's great to have finished as the fastest Brit on the first day of my first Six Days – hopefully the rest of the week goes well now.”

Topping the E1 class was Frenchman Antoine Meo, the recently-crowned world champion.

Chased hard by team-mate and overall winner of last year's six days, Eero Remes, the two look set to remain at the top of the E1 class.
