A classic move!

HE move from the old Lime Kiln Hill Quarry site to the new Keinton Lane Quarry venue seems to have had little detrimental effect on the Somerton Classic Club's traditional post-Christmas Charity Trial, which attracted a good entry of 87 competitors.

The entry included a sidecar class with Brian Ayres being tasked with setting out some chair sections for the first time in some 20-odd years!

Keinton Lane Quarry is similar in many ways to the previous venue but the main area is of hard packed soil and various rockery, with less mud except for one or two peripheral sections on the boundary banking.

There was certainly plenty of standing water but this had little or no effect on the hard packed banking and clerk of the course, Vic Burgoyne, had to use plenty of loops and cambers to take some marks off the more expert competitors. With just three cleans on the B route, he judged the more difficult going about right but found he had been more than a little generous on route B, resulting in ten Twin-shock cleans plus another in the Pre-70 class.

Mike Mackenzie made one of his occasional trips from Hampshire to challenge the regular exponents on route A in the Pre-65 Pre-Unit Class and his two mark total took the win from Somerset Ariel man Bob Hill on eight and BSA-mounted George Greenland, who dropped an early five for going the wrong side of a marker.
