Jett Lawrence clinched the 2022 AMA Pro Motocross 250MX Championship today in Pala, California, at the Fox Raceway National, sealing it with his race one win.

The 19-year-old Team Honda HRC rider had already won the 250SX East Division championship in April, which came on the back of his 2021 250MX Championship title.

The Australian has won all but three of the overalls of the 2022 250MX season and has only been off the overall podium twice in what has been a commanding US Outdoors season with nine Pro Motocross national wins.

Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Jo Shimoda pressured Jett in the opening moto at Fox Raceway after the Honda rider took the holeshot. Still, Lawrence looked in control, managing the pace and keeping just enough air between his back wheel and Shimoda's challenge.

That battle brought Jett's brother Hunter into the fight for second, while Star Racing Yamaha's Justin Cooper and Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin racing his first Pro Motocross moto of the year was fourth and fifth, respectively.

With Hunter and Shimoda fighting for second place in the series, the racing between the pair was always going to be tense, and so it proved as Hunter charged downhill, taking the inside line from Shimoda and sending the Japanese star to the deck.

"It feels great, said Jett after the winning the 2022 250MX AMA Pro Motocross Championship. "I'm still a little bummed; I wish I'd known it was Hunter [behind], but I heard he got in second on that last lap.

"It's hot out there! I was trying to maintain and not use any extra energy. Pumped [to win] but also a little bummed I didn't give Hunter an extra three points, but it is what it is. Hopefully, he can get second in this championship."

In the second moto, Shimoda put his disappointment from the opening moto firmly behind him as he checked out for the race win ahead of Jett, who sealed his ninth overall of the season.

Meanwhile, team-mate and brother, Hunter, had a terrible start down in 13th and although he worked his way up, his chance of second place in the 250MX series was over with Shimoda's moto win.
