Ken Roczen extended his lead at the top of the AMA 450cc SX standings with another dominant performance as the series returned to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, for round three.

The German gated fourth, took the lead from Andrew Short at the end of the first lap and checked out to claim his second Main Event win of the season to add to the victory he took at Anaheim at the opening round of the year.

Short's challenge ended when he went over the bars - collecting Jason Anderson in the process - and as Roczen stretched out a five-second lead there was a fierce battle for second between Davi Millsaps, Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey. Eli Tomac, winner of round two, was also on the move forward from an initial eighth but Millsaps started to go in the opposite direction.
As the race approached the halfway mark it was Roczen from Dungey with Tomac snatching third from Reed.

On lap nine Trey Canard misjudged Reed's line into a 180 degree left-hander and landed on the Aussie, taking them both down. Both riders were up quickly but as they approached the next turn Reed expressed his dissatisfaction by running his rival off the track where he crashed over some Tuff Blocks.

The move earned Reed a black flag for retaliation and cost him points and championship positions.
