Buildbase Honda will field a four-man line-up next season after the 11th-hour signing of Martin Barr.
Team owner Dave Thorpe had tried to sign the 28-year-old in the summer but at the time he was happy to stay with his existing set-up. However, Dave's persistence paid off and Martin agreed a deal at the end of November and after testing the 2016 CRF250R last week the Irishman's confident that he made the right decision.
"I'm really looking forward to racing with the Buildbase Honda team next season,” says
Martin. "They've put a really good deal together for me. It's one of the most professional teams in the paddock and I'm very excited to be part of it.
"I've already tested the bike and it's absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to get started.”
Martin will race MX2 for Buildbase Honda alongside Lewis Trickett. MX1 duties will be handled by former British champion Kristian Whatley and Graeme Irwin. The team has already started pre-season preparations and will step up its programme when all four riders travel to Sardinia in January.
"I'm happy to have Martin in the Buildbase Honda team,” says Dave. "We now have four
riders who are capable of podiums and
championships. He will come to Sardinia with Kristian, Graeme and Lewis in January. The hard work begins...”
Martin, the 2010 Red Bull Pro Nationals MX2 champion, is an experienced racer who has
represented his country on a record 11 consecutive occasions at the Motocross of Nations. His signing has been welcomed by
Racing Team Manager Neil Tuxworth.
"I am very happy for Martin to be joining the Buildbase Honda team,” he said. "I believe he has the potential to not only win races but could also win the MX2 championship on the new Honda CRF250R machine too.”
