Christophe Pourcel retires from racing

Motocross MXGP

The Frenchman the only rider to beat Tony Cairoli in a straight contest in the last 13 years when he won the MX2 world title in 2006 also took two East Coast SX titles but never fulfilled his full promise in the wake of a terrible accident at Moneyglass in 2007.

Always a highly sensitive character, Christophe became even more aware of the inherent dangers of motocross after nearly losing his life in the incident and consciously avoided risks when track conditions became dangerous.

He returned from the USA to race GPs for a single season in 2012 before once again moving Stateside where he stayed until earlier this year when he suddenly relinquished his Husqvarna factory ride to compete in Canada, finishing second north of the border this summer.

Blessed

Well, today is the day, I am pleased to announce my retirement from racing. Its all Ive ever known but I have been so blessed and fortunate to race all around the world in front of many fans and to work with many great companies. From racing GPs, winning a world championship, then coming to America, two supercross championships, winning racesand now finding a new life here in the States, racing has given me so much. Those good times dont come without tough times, from my paralysing accident in 2007, internal injuries, countless collarbones, to my most recent neck fractures Ive had my fair share of injuries but Im happy to walk away happy and healthy.

Im looking forward to the next chapter of my life away from racing. Ive sacrificed so much in life, things that are normal for most people, to dedicate my life to racing and training. I want to enjoy this time now with my wife, family and friends and to say thank you to all the great people and companies that have supported me throughout my career and to the fans who have enjoyed watching me race.

"Its been a tough decision, I know I can still be competitive but my body has said enough with the injuries! Im 29 and have so much more life to live. Again thank you all and see you around!"
