Eddie toughs it out in Spain

Travelling to the opening round of the Spanish Championships Eddie Jay Wade fell sick en route and after a gruelling seven-hour road trip the last thing he needed was tough race conditions to cope with.

That's exactly what he got though, as after heavy overnight rain the course at Valverde Del Comino more like a swamp in places.

It appeared things couldn't get much worse but in free practice it was so bad EJW parked the bike preferring to wait for the timed session.

Finishing three seconds to the good in timed training after at one point being six seconds clear, there then followed a two-hour delay as workers battled against the conditions clearing standing water.

In race one coming through from a third place start position EJW claimed the lead on lap two, going on to win by 30 seconds.

That was the Saturday action done with and on Sunday the conditions had barely improved.

The course was still a mess of water and slop and as race two got underway the heavens opened again.

As if that wasn't bad enough whilst trying to clear his goggles Eddie was sideswiped and taken down in turn one relegating him to last place.

Returning to the pits for a new set of goggles he set about an amazing charge.

He kept his cool to nail an astounding second place finish.

The 1-2 result showed his determination in horrendous conditions and gave him the overall win and the lead in the series.
