Hard day's Knight for Sagar

The opening two rounds of the Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship set up camp at the Saints Well venue in Mid Wales last weekend. Fine weather on day one ensured an action packed start to the series, before heavy overnight rain forced an early end to round two. Defending BSEC Elite class champion David Knight and series newcomer, Tom Sagar, were the two big winners at the opening rounds of the Husqvarna British Sprint Enduro Championship staged at Saintswell, Mid Wales.
Claiming a win apiece, the KTM-mounted duo comfortably outpaced all other riders with Knight topping the opening round before Sagar got one up on the Manxman and won round two, which was cut short because of the weather.
With all riders completing six special tests on day one, competition for the top places was fierce in all classes. David Knight's eventual winning margin at the top of the Elite class was 90-seconds on Saturday.
But the defending World E3 champion didn't dominate on Sunday, with Sagar topping the opening test before Knight got into his stride as the test got rougher.
"My first test didn't go so well,” explained the Manxman.
"I crashed, but was soon back into things and as the test got rougher I felt better. It was the first time I've raced the new 530 so I'm still getting used to it.”
Sagar got closest to Knight on all tests to secure the runner-up spot, with Greg Evans placing third.
A little slow to get going, Evans finished ahead of fourth-placed Si Wakely. Back in competition after six months away from racing, the Husaberg-mounted rider showed that he's lost none of his speed or determination.
Rounding out the top five of the Elite class was Jamie Lewis, who was making his enduro debut.
Showing impressive speed and consistency, the motocross racer managed to edge ahead of Paul Edmondson and Daryl Bolter, who crashed heavily on lap four.
One spot behind Daryl was CCM's Tom Church. Contesting the BSEC for the first time, Tom clearly wasn't prepared to take any chances ahead of a busy year of motocross racing, but still performed well.
Gavin Houson and Ollie Moyce rounded out the top ten.
Back out of retirement and clearly enjoying himself, Wyn Hughes posted the overall fastest Expert class times at round one, on Saturday, aboard a Husqvarna.
Putting his experience to good use and showing many of the youngsters how it should be done, Wyn topped the E2 class ahead of Oliver Hart and Richard Ely.
David Lloyd-Jones was the rider to beat in Expert E1, where he finished almost seven-minutes ahead of his nearest class rival, Tudur Davies, with Irishman Robert Lynn third.
In Expert E3 Manxman Matthew Lund came out on top, finishing one-second up on Tyson Maytom-Jones after one-and-a-half hours of racing. Third went to Neil Hawker.
One of the most impressive performances at the championship's opening rounds was that of Australian youngster Ben Burrell.
Dominating the Under 19 class, his last test of the first day was the second fastest time of any rider.
