Hitachi REVO Husqvarna MX1 rider Jakes Nicholls comeback continued to pick up speed on Sunday at round three of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean at Hawkstone Park.

Jake, who suffered a string of injuries in 2014 and 2015, was on the pace all day in the challenging Shropshire sand on his FC 450. He posted 3-3 finishes to end the day in third and post his best result in over two years - and it could have been even better but for a collision with a back-marker two corners from home in the opening moto while running a strong second.

"The first race was my best. In the second I pushed real hard for the first 15 minutes to keep up with Shaun Simpson - that's the fastest I've ridden in sand for a long time - and I used up a lot of energy.

I didn't really feel tired at the end but I didn't have the intensity that Tommy Searle]had. To be honest I wasn't really bothered about him passing me because at every British championship round this year I've had one good race and one bad one so two thirds is happy days.
