James Dunn moved into the joint lead of the MX2 class at the second round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean at Canada Heights on Sunday as his Hitachi REVO Husqvarna team enjoyed a very positive day.

On the eve of his world championship debut in Latvia next weekend, Dunn claimed a solid fifth in the opening moto on his FC 250 after a charge from outside of the top 10 and backed this up with second in race two. Although missing the overall podium by a single point he advanced to joint first in the series standings.

The unforgiving Kentish track provided a tougher challenge for James' MX2 team-mate Oli Benton who struggled with starts but strung together a series of passes in both races to record a pair of 31st-placed finishes.

The team's MX1 rider Jake Nicholls suffered mixed fortunes. A mechanical problem in the opening moto resulted in a no-score but he came back strongly in race two, threatening the leaders and eventually bringing his FC 450 home in third for 10th overall.

In MX1 Jake Nicholls again proved his return to form which was blemished only by a freak minor mechanical in moto one which probably cost him an overall podium.

"It was another good weekend.” Said Dunn. "I had a fifth in the first moto after a strong ride to come from just outside the top 10 and nearly get fourth. In the second race I had a better start and came through strong to second for fourth overall. I just missed out on the podium by one point which is a shame but I still had two strong rides and tied first in the championship. It's a good place to be at the minute. I feel like I've got good speed and the bike's working well.”
