Loket and loaded

Toni Cairoli completed his half century of GP victories at Loket to carry a 30 point lead to Matterley Basin and casually remarked, Numbers are not so important, I like to win every week.

Meanwhile the MX2 title moved further away from Brit Tommy Searle's grasp as a patched-up Jeffrey Herlings took the second double win of the day for KTM; indeed the Brit was the crowd's bad boy after the title rivals had clashed twice in race two.

Zach Osborne joined the pair on the podium after a
tie-break decider with Jake Nicholls and Max Anstie made it four UK runners in the top seven. Shaun Simpson had an eighth in the MX1 opener, Jamie Law and Nez Parker returned to the points and Elliott Banks-Browne finally broke his duck.
"I had to pack up and go home when I tried to ride on Thursday.

I brought my doctor with me and I'm on a lot of painkillers,” reckoned Herlings as, following his car crash while returning from the GP is Russia, he turned up with sticking plaster on his forehead and dark glasses at the Saturday evening press conference after running away with MX2 qualification.

But the show was not kidding anyone, the Dutch teenager was in Czecho to win.

He had to make his way around Butron and Van Horebeek for the first moto win, but Searle was way back: "Elliott went straight on at turn one, there were bikes everywhere ... and I was nearly last !”

With a succession of one minute 50 laps the Brit was up to third by half distance, inheriting second when Van Horebeek somersaulted out of the race, but Herlings was already 10 seconds down the track and the race was run.

Nicholls raced to his first moto podium - "I only rode the new five-speeder once before I came here, and I'm having to think about what gear to be in, but I got out of the gate and hung in there.

I struggled for a couple of laps in the middle, but picked it up again after Tommy came past.” - while Osborne and Anstie charged from seventh and 10th to haul in Butron in the closing laps.

EBB had struggled on Saturday, but got to grips with the track on race day after gating sixth: "I crashed on lap two when the front end slipped away, but I picked up the pace again and was running top ten until my goggles steamed up and I had to take them off.” But only Roelants and Tixier could take advantage.

The big names all got away at the front in race two, and the title rivals locked horns for second as Van Horebeek led the way.

"I touched Jeremy's rear wheel and fell down but I was far enough ahead not to lose second,” admitted Herlings as he blocked Searle for lap after lap.

"Jeffrey was making mistakes and it was difficult to find somewhere to pass.

I was faster at that part of the track and thought I could get through, but we touched and he went down,” explained Searle of their first clash.

Despite desperate signals from the pit crew to settle for a safe 20 points, the Dutch teenager was fired up: "Tommy cleaned me out and I just wanted to win.

He apologised at the podium, but I don't understand why he did it; we've been racing clean since Fermo.”

Hauling back 10 seconds in just three laps there was no mistaking Herlings' action, but Searle was man enough to admit: "I knew he'd take me out.

And I was just riding so bad, missing all of my lines.”
