Manx glory for Jarvis

SHERCO scored a rare national double with a clean-sweep by Graham Jarvis and the husband and wife team of Robin and Gill Morewood in the Manx Two-Day Trial at the weekend. The Malcolm Rathmell Sport trio proved dominant in both solo and sidecar classes of the sun-kissed event, but they by no means had things all their own way.
Jarvis only had a share of the lead on Saturdayevening with home favourite Steve Colley after the opening 42 solosections in the south of the Island. But Sunday proved a real disasterfor 11 times winner Colley, who rattled up four fives and a dab to slipto third behind Dan Thorpe, his lowest finish in the Manx Two-Day sincethe late 1980s.
If anything, Colley looked the sharpest onSaturday's 46-mile run with some confident rides on his John Shirt GasGas. Thorpe had a rude awakening with a five on the second sub atBawshen Gulley, while Colley took precautionary dabs on each of thesections in the slimy gulley, his only marks of the day.
Jarvis, who had his first loss of the trial on thesecond of two tight sections at Renshent, admitted he was extremelyfortunate to get away with a one on the loose slate climb, the thirdsection at South Barrule Quarry late in the day. A generous bit ofobserving saw him escape with a single mark on the card when anythingless than a five looked improbable on the no-stop ruling.
It left him level-pegging with Colley overnight ontwo, followed by Thorpe on 13 and Barham's Ben Wibberley and Manchester17 teenager Craig Robinson closely matched for fourth on 28 and 29respectively.
