Mike Brown remembered with stellar turnout

The Mike Brown Memorial which since 2017 has also incorporated the Huck Cup in memory of Mark Hucklebridge is arguably one of the best-attended meetings on the British motocross calendar and this years event at Marshfield on Good Friday was no exception.
And its not just the fans who love it, so do the riders where else in the UK in a non-national or international event will you see riders of the calibre of Shaun Simpson, Tommy Searle and Conrad Mewse banging bars?
Promoted by nearby Team Green dealer Motoxtreme and run by the Marshfield AMCA Club, it was first held in 1989 to commemorate Mike who tragically died the previous year in an industrial accident aged just 32.
Money raised this year will be split between the Friends of Huck charity and the Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care at RUH Bath. The exact amount hasnt been determined yet but it is expected to be a substantial sum to add to the tens of thousands of pounds raised at the event over the last 30 years.
Mikes brother Alan Brown from Motoxtreme explained the history behind the race. It started off as the Old Friends Race, he said.
We were trying to encourage people Mike had raced with over the years like myself and Mike Church and Mark Hucklebridges dad Chris to keep going and now weve got our own sons coming through.
Weve always kept it a friendly, social event but weve decided to raise the profile while keeping it relaxed without too much pressure for anyone.Obviously, thats great because riders like Shaun, Tommy and Conrad who are used to being under pressure at races can relax and enjoy themselves and mingle with the fans.
