Motocross

WAYNE Smith on his 450 Pioneer Emberson Yamaha tightened his grip on the British Open Ch ampionship by scoring two wins from two starts at round three of the British Multi MX series at Dean Moor on the north west coast of Cumbria at the weekend.

Meanwhile, in the PAR Homes-sponsored Under 21 Championship, CCM's new signing Kristian Whatley finished his first meeting on his new mount level points with overall winner Ashley Greedy, who's now mounted on a Suzuki.
Reigning Quad champion, John Mitchell's year goes from bad to worse as more problems for the likeable Scott netted him just 15-points while his main rival Paul Winrow finished the event level top scorer, on 45-points with overall winner Leon Beda.
The weather was great with bright blue skies greeting the riders as they woke on the hilltop track with the impressive Lake District backdrop, but a chilly breeze stopped any sunbathing.

OPEN CLASS
BRYAN MacKenzie got one of his lightning starts in the first Open class moto, with Smith in his wheel tracks and Jordan Rose tucked in behind.
The top three stayed in the same order for the first five laps, as Neville Bradshaw made his way from fifth on lap one to third, with Richard Lawson and Jamie Law dogging his every more.
Just a lap later, Rose slowed and pulled his Honda to the side of the track with a dead engine.
At the halfway stage, Smith finally found a way passed MacKenzie and stormed off into the distance. Bradshaw was a distant third with Lawson and Law still in tow.
Smith cruised across the finish line to take the win by just under 12-seconds from a charging Law, who found a way to oust Bradshaw on the last lap, while MacKenzie faded back to fourth place.    >>>
In race two it was Smith and Law all the way, as the pair started first and second and finished in the same order, albeit some 15-seconds apart.
Bradshaw demoted Rose on lap two and put Law under pressure right until the halfway point, when he crashed out. Rose regained the place he had lost and finished the race in third and Murro was chased over the finish line by Lawson for fourth and fifth. Mark Hucklebridge, second in the points at the start of the day, admits that he doesn't like the track and can't get on with it, which showed in his lowly placings – ninth and sixth – after mid-field starts, but nevertheless he still holds second spot.
After racing, Smith said: "It's been a really great day apart from not leading the first race off the gate. It's been perfect! It's also nice to be out in front and be able to choose your own lines.”
Second overall, a smiling Law said: "The hand I broke still hurts a bit, but it's getting there. It's good to have two good rides in one day, and I really enjoyed the second race.”
A happy Murro said: "I got really bad arm pump in the opener and I don't know why my arms just locked up. The harder I tried the worse it got, so in the second race I just went for it from the word go and it seemed better. I would like to have been on the top step of the podium in one of the races, but two consistent rides will do me.”
