MX Diary: Close call for Tommy Searle

MX1 series leader heading into Canada Heights on Sunday, Tommy Searle was lucky to escape without injury after a huge crash at the start of the opening moto.

The Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki rider drifted wide in the first turn and went down hard. The chasing pack then ploughed into him and his bike.

"I hit the fence and went down and was hit by at least seven other riders,” he said. "I was on the floor thinking that must be it for people hitting me but another one came, then another, then my head and my neck got hit. With all the bikes around I was lucky my hands didn't get damaged.

"I checked myself over, picked up the bike, straightened it up and came back to ninth place by the end of the race. I was on the same pace as the leaders but had traffic to deal with so I am happy with my speed. It's disappointing but that's racing.”
