Maxime Renaux has today become the 2021 MX2 Motocross World Champion after winning the Grand Prix of Garda in Trentino, Italy making him the first Motocross World Champion for Yamaha in six years.

Winning the 2021 MX2 Motocross World Championship the way he would have wanted, Renaux raced to a moto two win to deliver his fifth Grand Prix victory of the season.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider had some help along the way with injures to Red Bull KTM's Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts season getting off to a slow start, but there is no doubt, the Frenchman has deserved his first MX2 crown.

Renaux cruised to a dominant first World title with two GPs to spare. He visited the podium 12 times, enjoyed eight moto wins and delivered five Grand Prix victories for Yamaha, who had been waiting for an MX2 champion since Tony Cairoli lifted the gold plate in 2007 (Yamaha won the MXGP title in 2015 with Romain Febvre).

The 21-year-old, who has suffered two years of injuries, celebrated his first GP victory of the season at round two, Matterley basin, and had to wait until round seven in Latvia before climbing the top step for a second time but his form rarely dipped throughout the campaign.

"It means so much for me," said Renaux as tears streamed down his face. "I've been working so hard for that I've been so deep and so low; coming back like that it's such an emotion, winning the championship with a race win and a GP win, it's such a dream day."
