MXGP Dylan Walsh

JM Honda Racing rider Dylan Walsh had his best points tally of his MXGP career Wednesday in Lommel where the 14th round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship took place.

Team-mate Artem Guryev experienced a rough day in the deep sand and placed 28th overall.

The current British MX2 champion started his day committed to improve however in Time Practice the spectacular Kiwi couldnt get the lap in he wanted to. Although he didnt snatch another holeshot Walsh got underway with another of his trademark fast starts. From the outside, the CRF450R rider placed himself in seventh early on. For most of the race he circulated inside the top 15. Unfortunately he had to throw away his goggles with five laps to go and crossed the line 17th.

After a similarly strong start the MXGP rookie suffered a tumble early in the race. Still Walsh managed to regroup and did well among the sand specialists. The JM Honda Racing rider ran as high as 12th eventually to come home 14th. He also captured 14th for the day.

Artem Guryev didnt gel with the track in Time Practice and encountered more than his share of challenges on what was an extremely difficult day for him. The young Russian placed 24th in the opener and retired in the final race.

Dylan Walsh: Today was a little bit better. I struggled in Time Practice to put a good lap together. In race one I got up to quite a nice rhythm after a good start. Having to race without goggles for the last five laps was a real struggle! Its a shame that I had quite a big crash in the second turn in the second moto. After I regained some positions. Overall a better day than on Sunday but Id like to be higher up still.

Artem Guryev: Im not happy with my day. In the first moto I suffered two big crashes early in the race. Those knocked me back quite a bit. In the second moto I went down hard again and hit my head in the process. I tried to get going again but went down three more times. I was feeling pretty sore all over my body and felt a bit dizzy so its was best to retire at that moment.

For the final race in Lommel, come Sunday, the JM Honda Racing team will see Benoit Paturel return to action. The French ace got injured at the final Kegums round but he's now ready to race again.
