Nagl has run of the Mill

The colour, the slick professionalism and sheer spectacle of the Red Bull Pro Nationals was transported to Mill in Holland at the weekend as the series went international for the first time.

And – to put it simply – it went down better than a pint of ice-cold Oranjeboom on a red-hot summer day!

Factory Red Bull KTM rider Max Nagl was the stand-out star of the show and remained unbeaten over the weekend.

After victory in Saturday's pro qualifying race he stormed to a pair of dominant wins the following day, as Elliott Banks-Browne made it a KTM double with a maximum points haul in MX2.

The event was intended to test the waters before a five-round international series is rolled out next year and it certainly made a huge impact at the former GP track.

It was by far the most ambitious event series promoters Events 22 have staged in the three-and-a-half year history of the Red Bull Pro Nationals and without doubt a totally new concept for mainland Europe.

Some of the world's top professionals shared a race programme with the cream of European youth talent, cheered on by fans from Holland, Belgium, Germany and even further afield.

For the European adventure there was a shake-up in the race programme with the riders of the Red Bull Elite Youth Cup classes getting four races over the weekend in the Rookies and three apiece for the BW and SW85s and 65s.

The pros also got to strut their stuff in a qualification race on the Saturday afternoon.

Home heroes Marc de Reuver and Mike Kras drew first blood for the Dutch in Saturday morning's qualification session but when the gate dropped on the afternoon's qualification race it was Nagl who was quickly at the front.

The German looked to have the race in the bag but lost the lead to de Reuver after he crashed in the shifting sands.
