KTMs enduro rookie Nathan Watson has won the first race of the Italian Championship in Lignano Sabbiadoro.

Watson has shown he's more than up for the challenge by claiming victory in his first time of asking in enduro.

With the opening round of the Italian series reading a who's who of enduro with guys like Alex Salvini, Johnny Aubert, Eero Remes and Matt Phillips, Watson held his nerve to secure a four-second margin of victory over fellow MXGP-turned enduro convert Davide Guarneri.

Honda mounted Guarneri had been fastest throughout the morning half of day one, but a bunch of mistakes during the night time special dropped him down to second.

Third on the day was Matt Phillips delivering a solid start to his new chapter with Sherco.

Round one closes out with day two, Sunday February 14, where the rookies look to keep the established elite on their toes.

The best pilot in the extreme, and winner of the X-Cup Maxxis-Honda Redmoto, was Manuel Monni with Giacomo Redondo and another rookie Husqvarna's Pascal Rauchenecker.
